Course information

Course name: Measuring network quality - Basic course
Duration: 1 day
Price: NOK 6 200,-
Language: Norwegian

Whether you need to dimension networks and transformers or install filters and equalizers, it is essential you make good decisions. And this depends on taking correct measurements. Through both theory and practical exercises this one-day course will provide you with invaluable knowledge and help you select the best tools for the job, set them up safely, and monitor real-time data.

Good insight into the basic theory behind the parameters of an installation, knowledge about safe practices when working with voltage systems, and an understanding of the definitions in the Norwegian directive on Quality of Supply are necessary prerequisites to measuring network quality.

The course offers a basic understanding of measuring and analysing network quality. A good basic understanding is essential in order to recognise signals indicating incorrect connections and/or settings. Correct interpretation of signals can prevent costly mistakes.

Target group:

Installation managers, maintenance engineers, electrical engineers and energy consultants.

Course subjects:

Basic terms
●   (T)RMS, Crest factor, peak values, average values, frequency
●   Safety (IEC61010-1), using pliers to take current readings, connecting voltage probes
●   Nominal voltage/current, effect (KW, KVA, KVAR), (non-) linear load)

Setting up network quality measuring
●   Instrument setup (relative values, limit values, networks, phases)
●   Instrument functions (scope-metre function, calibration, instrument class)

Interpreting and systematising readings in relation to the Quality of Supply directive and EN-50160 (including limits)
●   Temporary overvoltages and undervoltages
●   Flicker
